From time to time, footballers have landed themselves in hot water for bad habits.
Here, GLTrends.com lists five professional footballers who went to prison and have been jailed for serious criminal offences.
5. Joey Barton
Barton is known for his controversies on and off the pitch and has been convicted on two occasions of violence. In the first instance he was charged for driving at a pedestrian, whilst the second was on the grounds of assault. He had no choice but to serve 77 days in jail.
Barton was also given a suspended sentence for four months after attacking his teammate Ousame Dobo.
4. Marlon King
Birmingham City forward has also been convicted on two occasions. He was first involved in a $exual assault case in 2009 where he was subsequently jailed for a period of 18 months. This was due to groping a lady as well as breaking her nose which took place at a London night spot.
King was again at the centre of another commotion in April 2014. This time, it was for causing a pile up on the motorway, whilst consuming ice cream as he was driving. King was later sent down for 18 months which was due to his dangerous driving.
3. Troy Deeney
Three days after reading the eulogy at his father’s funeral after he died from cancer, the Watford striker was sentenced to 10 months behind bars in 2012.
Deeney was convicted of affray in 2012 for his part in a street brawl in Birmingham, but served just three months in prison.
Upon his release, he was back in action for the Hornets wearing an electronic tag on his ankle.
However, Troy Deeney insists his time in jail was the best thing that ever happened to him. The 27-year-old says his time in jail helped turn his life around.
He said: “Going to prison was the best thing that ever happened to me.
“The two years leading up to that, I was thinking I was a man because I was going out drinking and paying for everyone.
2. Ched Evans
In 2012, Chesterfield striker Ched Evans was found guilty after he allegedly R@ped a female in hotel room.
He was released after serving two and a half years of a five-year term for R@pe.
Evans had denied raping the 19-year-old at a Premier Inn in Rhuddlan, Denbighshire, on 30 May 2011 and insists it was consensual $ex.
Evans, 27, was found guilty of R@pe at Caernarfon Crown Court in 2012.
1. Adams Johnson
Footballer Adam Johnson was jailed for six years in March for grooming and $exual activity with a girl aged 15.
The judge told Johnson, 28, he had engaged in $exual activity with her knowing she was under 16.
The $exual activity with the girl happened in the footballer’s Range Rover in January 2015 after he had groomed her using social media apps.
